At Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, our mission is to provide compassionate, high-quality healthcare services to the residents of Nacogdoches County and surrounding areas. We are committed to improving the health and well-being of our community through excellence in patient care, education, and community outreach.
Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital opened its doors on December 11, 1928, as City Memorial Hospital. Established with 28 beds, the hospital was funded by the City of Nacogdoches through the sale of its municipal electrical system, generating $150,000. The land for the hospital was generously donated by Mrs. Itasca Blount. Originally dedicated to World War I veterans, the hospital now honors the memory of veterans from all wars.
On June 12, 1967, the Texas Legislature passed House Bill #1248, establishing the Nacogdoches County Hospital District. Following a favorable public vote on April 9, 1968, ownership of City Memorial Hospital transferred to the newly formed district on May 6, 1968. The hospital was subsequently renamed Memorial Hospital, and the first board of directors was elected to oversee its operations.

Our leadership is committed to fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and service, ensuring the highest standards of care for every patient we serve.
At Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, patient safety is our top priority. We are proud to announce a significant milestone: our facility has achieved 365 consecutive days without a hospital-acquired infection (HAI), reflecting our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional healthcare.
Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are infections that patients acquire while receiving treatment for medical or surgical conditions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in 31 hospital patients has an HAI on any given day. These infections can lead to serious health complications, prolonged hospital stays, and increased healthcare costs.
Our recent achievements include:
529 days without a CLABSI (Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection)
498 days without an MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) infection
444 days without a C-DIFF (Clostridioides difficile) infection
419 days without a CAUTI (Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection)
These accomplishments are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our healthcare professionals who strive every day to create a safe and healing environment.
In June 2023, our dedicated team implemented evidence-based best practice standards for infection prevention. Over the past year, their continued commitment to these practices has led to our remarkable achievement of going 365 days without an HAI. These best practices include:
Rigorous hand hygiene protocols
Enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures
Adherence to sterile techniques during medical procedures
Regular staff training and education on infection prevention
By preventing HAIs, we:
Improve patient outcomes and recovery times
Reduce the length of hospital stays
Lower healthcare costs for patients and the hospital
Enhance overall patient satisfaction and trust in our facility
At Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, our commitment to exceptional care and patient safety is unwavering. Our outstanding achievements in preventing hospital-acquired infections showcase the relentless pursuit of excellence by our healthcare professionals.
We are proud to share these accomplishments with our community and will continue to strive for excellence in all aspects of patient care. Thank you for trusting us with your health.
