Auxiliary recognizes scholarship winners, honorary volunteer, hours served
At the Nacogdoches Memorial Auxiliary’s first board meeting in over a year, volunteers celebrated with a Cinco de Mayo meal and recognized two nursing students with auxiliary scholarships. Students Shanara Greer, at Panola College, and Kay Hastings, at Stephen F. Austin, were chosen by the committee based on a rubric that scored their academic performance, a submitted essay, and their list of references. The recipients thanked the volunteers for their generosity and support.
The organization also recognized Katy Crawford, Nacogdoches Memorial Health foundation director, as an honorary voluntary member. This honor was presented to her by volunteer president, Fred Niehaus. Fred believes “Katy is indispensable to the volunteer organization.” The volunteers wanted to show appreciation for everything Katy does for them.
During the meeting, members received pins and bars for the number of volunteer hours completed. Lois Hejl deserves special recognition for completing 11,000 volunteer hours over the span of her volunteer time. Lois began volunteering at the hospital in 1996 and still serves in L&D and the gift shop. She also holds the title of second vice-president, where she serves as the chairperson of the membership committee to coordinate the recruitment and orientation of all new members of the auxiliary in cooperation with the volunteer coordinator.
We continue to be thankful to have our hardworking volunteers back with us!
