KTRE/KLTV recognizes Matthew Malloy for outstanding service
Matthew Malloy, RN and quality manager for Nacogdoches Memorial Professional Group, was recently
acknowledged for outstanding service by KTRE and KLTV television stations as part of their Thank-a-Nurse
recognition program.
Matthew, who was momentarily caught off guard by the unexpected crowd and all the attention, was nominated by, not just one, but two department coworkers for his selfless nature and warm spirit towards everything he does. According to organizers, this is the first time that a recipient has received two nominations and the nominators didn’t even know the other person was putting Matthew’s name in the hat. Candace McGuire and Reagan Moore both described Matthew as having an “above and beyond” attitude and always being enthusiastic when faced with tasks that potentially diverge from his comfort zone.
Matthew played a vital role in setting up the local call center and drive-up testing center when COVID-19 first hit East Texas. He worked endless hours with Medical Center, Stephen F. Austin State University, and the City and County of Nacogdoches to give local citizens access to efficient, well-run testing for several months. Matthew then showed great dedication and worked long hours to help set up an outpatient testing center here at the hospital after closing down the local drive-up testing center.
He was quick to volunteer when Nacogdoches County Jail needed testing for its inmates and staff. Taking the testing options on site stopped the risk of further spread and limited the exposure involved in transporting staff and inmates for lab work. It was a good move for all concerned.
Offering an unwavering helping hand, Matthew makes it a point to not only do his own duties but help out his coworkers when needed, filling in when other nurses are out and helping with quality measures and computer training when others need assistance.
“If our world had more individuals with these same qualities, it would be a better place,” said Reagan in her nomination submission. Candace unknowingly agreed with that sentiment, saying in her nomination, “We’d be lost without him!”
With Matthew’s kind of dedication, initiative, and selflessness, it’s not surprising that coworkers were excited to be part of the surprise award ceremony organized by KTRE/KLTV. The hospital lobby filled up quickly with work friends and Matthew’s family who were all eager to share the good news and thank this fine nurse.
