Why Our Achievement Matters

At Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, we are thrilled to announce a significant milestone in our journey toward providing exceptional healthcare. We have successfully gone 365 days without a hospital-acquired infection (HAI), an accomplishment that underscores our commitment to patient safety and quality care.

Understanding Hospital-Acquired Infections

Hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) are infections that patients acquire while receiving treatment for medical or surgical conditions. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in 31 hospital patients has an HAI on any given day. These infections can lead to serious health complications, prolonged hospital stays, and increased healthcare costs.

Our Specific Achievements

Our recent achievements include:

  • 477 days without a CLABSI (infection with a central IV line)
  • 446 days without an MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus infection)
  • 392 days without a C-DIFF (Clostridioides difficile infection)
  • 419 days without a CAUTI (infection with a urine catheter)

These numbers are more than just statistics; they represent the lives saved and the improved outcomes for our patients. They reflect the dedication and hard work of our healthcare professionals who strive every day to create a safe and healing environment.

Implementing Best Practices

In June 2023, our dedicated team implemented evidence-based, best practice standards for infection prevention. Over the past year, their continued commitment to these practices has led to our remarkable achievement of going 365 days without an HAI. These best practices include:

  • Rigorous hand hygiene protocols
  • Enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures
  • Adherence to sterile techniques during medical procedures
  • Regular staff training and education on infection prevention

The Impact on Patient Care

By preventing HAIs, we:

  • Improve patient outcomes and recovery times
  • Reduce the length of hospital stays
  • Lower healthcare costs for patients and the hospital
  • Enhance overall patient satisfaction and trust in our facility
